Adelaide D. Woodward
Adelaide D. Woodward, who was born in Brooklyn, and raised on Long Island, died on Saturday, December 5 in West Chester PA. She was 81.
She was the wife of Ronald E. Woodward, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage, and daughter of Robert and Daisy Stephenson Doyle, both of whom emigrated to this country from Ireland near the turn of the last century.
A graduate of Cornell University (1949), Adelaide worked for Sperry Gyroscope Company until her marriage, and then became a stay at home mom active in cultural affairs. She was the President of the Henry Hicks Garden Club of Westbury, New York, and a director of the Affiliated Garden Clubs of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and won many awards in show competitions. She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years. She served on the Altar Guild for St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Carle Place, and for the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City.
As her children got older she embarked on a successful new career as a Law firm office billing and bookkeeping manager, at Congdon, Flaherty & O’Callaghan in Garden City.
She and Ronald retired to West Chester, PA in 1996, after she suffered a serious fall.
A well beloved and talented woman, wife, mother, companion and friend, Adelaide particularly enjoyed long walks, impressionist paintings, family reunions, especially at the family camp in the Adirondack mountains, travel, and weeping along with “Madame Butterfly”.
Adelaide is survived by her husband, her daughters Robin Woodward of New York City and Anne Woodward Lydon, of Devon Pennsylvania, her son in law Joseph Lydon and her grandchildren Megan and Joseph Lydon. Her beloved son John Woodward preceded her in death in 2007.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service 2:00pm, Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 212 S. High St. West Chester, PA. 19380.
Visitation will be held at the Church on Friday from 1-2:00pm.
Interment will be 2PM, Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Oakwood Cemetery, Bay Shore, NY.

Mary Colbeth Korff
Mary Colbeth Korff, 89, died peacefully on November 29, 2009 at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington, VA. She was born and raised in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, daughter of Captain Harold L Colbeth and Myna Pearl Proctor Colbeth, both descended from long lines of seafaring folk from Machiaport, Maine. She was the youngest of three children and predeceased by her brother Harold L. Colbeth, jr of Delmar NY and Ruth Colbeth Studley of Falmouth MA.
Mrs. Korff earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City where she met her husband of 62 years, Fred H. Korff, Jr. Following naval service in WWII, the Korffs settled in Garden City, Long Island where they raised two children. When the children finished elementary school, Mrs Korff returned to the workforce as a case worker for the Nassau County Dept of Social Services. On a fellowship, she earned a MSW degree from Adelphi University, and in 1975, she retired from the department as Director of Certification. Avid boaters, the Korffs retired to Pine Knoll Shores on the coast of NC where she was an active member of the community and the first woman to be elected president of the local association. She was a surf fisher, tennis player and accomplished bridge player. In 1996, the Korffs moved to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury which is a continuing care community. Mr Korff died there in 2003. Mrs Korff was an active resident and committee chairperson there until health issues forced her to curtail the activities she so dearly loved. She was a popular resident, gracious with a quick wit and cheerful greeting for everyone. Mrs Korff is survived by son David F. Korff of Beaumont, CA and daughter Susan C. Hammer of Woodford, VA. A memorial service will was held at RW-C on December 2, 2009. in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the RW-C Fellowship Fund or any charity of choice.
