Members of the Presbyterian Church in Garden City took some fourth grade students from Westbury to the Long Island Children’s Museum this summer. The Presbyterian Church in Garden City has “adopted” 16 Central American fourth graders and their families in Westbury. The outreach program began with a summer trip to the Long Island Children’s Museum and the donation of book bags and school supplies. In November, the congregation provided Thanksgiving dinner, and for Christmas the church is collecting toys, books and cold weather apparel, including winter coats, for the fourth graders and all their siblings. Other activities and projects will continue throughout 2010. The church is coordinating the program with a Westbury elementary school teacher who lives in Garden City. Anyone wishing to support the program can send a contribution to the church at 91 Chester Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530.
