St. Anne’s CYO U-10 basketball

On Sunday, Nov. 30, the St. Anne’s CYO U-10 basketball team played against St. Catherine’s of Franklin Square. The game was held at the new facility at Chaminade High School.

From the first jump ball by Sal Cirasola, St. Anne’s knew they had their work cut out for them. The ball was immediately tipped into the hands of a St. Catherine’s player, who then scored the game’s first basket. There were 11 unanswered points in the first quarter until Anthony Riggi sunk a basket at the buzzer.

In the second half, St. Anne’s showed some life with baskets by Jonathan Manfre, Patrick O’Hara, and Michael Mc Goldrick. It was a respectable 26-12 at the half.

After a halftime pep talk by coaches Cirasola and Gorman, the crowd hoped that the third quarter would have started to go St. Anne’s way. They were wrong.

St. Catherine’s added another 14 points to St. Anne’s 2. The strong St. Anne’s defense by Kevin Gorman, David Bianco and Sean Mohan seemed to be no match for the St. Catherine team. Brandon Brugnone also had his work cut out for him, defending what seemed to be a 6’4” center who grabbed every rebound.

The fourth quarter proved to be the same. James Drogalis sunk what was the only points scored for St. Anne’s in the 4th quarter as St. Catherine’s went on to defeat St. Anne’s by the score of 48-16.
