Santa Claus will be coming to town this Sunday Santa Claus is polishing his boots and lining up his reindeer for his annual return to Garden City. Once again, the Village Gazebo will become the setting for the 55th annual Village Tree Lighting Ceremony coordinated by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings.

This Sunday, December 6, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Santa will arrive on a Garden City fire truck “sleigh” to assist Mayor Robert Rothschild in the lighting of our Village trees. As has become tradition, the award-winning Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble will ring in the sounds of the season with a medley of holiday tunes. Also featured this season will be the Scarlet Fever local rock band - going “holiday” for this community event. Kingsley Bear, Kings Supermarket market will be on hand to pose with the little ones. The Garden City Volunteer Fire Department will provide hot chocolate for spectators. Bagelman, the Cupcake Corner, Dunkin’ Donuts, Kings Supermarket and Reisterer’s Bake Shop will graciously provide holiday cookies.

The Chamber acknowledges Astoria Federal Savings for their sponsorship over the past 15 years; Thanks for their contributions also go to the Garden City Fire,Police, Recreation and Parks Departments. The Chamber notes that Stewart Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic between Franklin and Hilton Avenues between 3;00 and 445 p.m. While there will not be a rain date, the Village Trees will be lit regardless of inclement weather.
