St. Anne’s U-10 Basketball
At the free throw line...
On Saturday 11/21/09, the St Anne’s CYO U-10 basketball team played against St Aidan’s at Chaminade for its second game of the fall 2009 season. >From what looked like a blow out loss for St Anne’s from the opening jump ball , turned out to be an exciting game for all who attended.
Within the first few minutes of the opening quarter, St Aiden’s jumped out to a 6-0 lead. They stunned St Anne’s with 3 unanswered baskets. St Anne’s regained their composure and fought back with 5 points on baskets by Jonathan Manfre and Sean Mohan. It was 10-5 St Aidan’s after the first quarter. The second quarter was another hard fight for St Anne’s when the halftime score was 15-7 St Aidan’s.
After a halftime pep talk from coach Cirasola and coach Gorman, St Anne’s came alive in the third quarter with 2 baskets from Anthony Riggi and 2 baskets from Ryan Moran. Great defense from Brandon Brugnone, Michael McGoldrick, Kevin Gorman and Sal Cirasola as they held St Aidan’s in check with only 2 baskets in the third.The score was all tied at 19 by the end of the third. The 4th period was underway and a battle was brewing in Mineola !! While St Anne’s was on a roll St Aidan’s refused to quit. This game was brought down to the wire. With only 1 minute remaining St Anne’s found themselves down by 3 points. Pressure was building for the coaches to find the right play that would win the game for St Anne’s. As the ball was put into play by St Anne’s with great passes by Patrick O’Hara, James Drogolis and David Bianco, St Aidan’s stole what was the deciding possession of the game. Sealing their victory as St Aidan’s went on to defeat St Anne’s by the score of 24-21.
