Garden City Library News News From The Children’s Room

Go Forth and Read!

The Go Forth! Fourth Grade Book Club is for (you guessed it) children presently enrolled in Fourth Grade. It is a time for fourth graders to come together, discuss a book and enjoy each other’s company. On Wednesday, December 2 at 4:00pm., all fourth graders are invited to come and join the discussion of Moon Runner by Carolyn Marsden. Lots of great activities are planned, so stop by the Children’s Room to sign up and get your copy of the book.

Holiday Crafts

The holidays will be here before you know it! Children ages 21/2 -5, along with a caregiver, can join us for a snowflake craft with Liane on Saturday, December 5 at either 9:30 or 10:30am. Children presently in Grades K-2 will meet at 1:00pm to make a Penguin Door Hanger. Children in Grades 3-5 will meet at 2:00pm to make a Snowman Sock Puppet. Registration is required and began on Saturday, November 21 at 9:00am. This program is open to Garden City residents only.

School Assignments and

the Library

The Garden City Public Library Children’s Room is a student’s (and parent’s) greatest asset for school assignments. The librarians can recommend a good book for a book report or help choose non-fiction and reference books for a research project. They can also show you how to use the databases. Many teachers in the Garden City school district let the library know when a report is planned. The librarians choose the appropriate books and put them in our special “school assignments” section. If you are looking for an Accelerated Reader, the Library has the AR lists for Stewart and Stratford schools. If you need help with a book report or project, the Library is the place to check out for what you need.

It’s Gift-Giving Time!

Trying to think of thoughtful, original and inexpensive gifts this December? The Children’s Department has a large craft section, full of things for parents and children to make together. Kathy Ross, author of many crafting titles, has Christmas Presents Kids Can Make, Christmas Ornaments Kids Can Make, and Christmas Crafts Kids Can Make. Other titles include Great Gifts, Gifts to Make and Eat, Paper Tags and Crafts and Gifts Kids Can Make. We also have many more books on holiday crafts, cards, gift wrap and other things you can make. Enjoy making things with your children this holiday season! They’ll be so proud to give out things they made themselves.

Please check the Library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
