Summer Girls Lacrosse Does It Again!

2009-11-20 / Sports

In just its second season, Garden City Rams Girls Summer Lacrosse has its impact being felt across all of Long Island. Just as in its initial season the program pitted Long Island Girls Lacrosse programs against each other in a six game season. This year the league was comprised of teams from Garden City, East Meadow, Floral Park, Port Washington, Manhasset, Wantagh, North Shore and Rockville Center.

The concept of the league is simple. It is to keep a stick in the girl’s hands past the end of the regular season while having fun doing it. The other by product of the league is that all the proceeds collected are donated to charity.

Last year the league donated twenty two hundred dollars to a soldier from Holbrook who lost his leg in Iraq. The money was used in the reconstruction of his house to make it more accessible for him.

This year the program went above and beyond by raising almost seven thousand dollars which were split among various charities. A donation of twenty five hundred dollars was made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Long Island. Another twenty five hundred was donated to the Boomer Esiason Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis. One thousand dollars was donated to the Police Athletic League ( PAL ) Special Needs Unit which provides athletic programs to special needs children all across Long Island. The remainder of the money was earmarked to provide a memorial bench at St Paul’s for the Parente Family who were tragically killed last year. Both the Parente girls were involved with the Garden City Rams Girls Lacrosse program.

Special thanks to the Garden City Recreation Program and Garden City Rams Girl’s Lacrosse!!!
