Pomfret Defeats Portsmouth Abbey In Season Finale
Garden City’s Leo Driscoll and fellow Long Islander Travis Quarless (Holy Cross HS) are all smiles after Pomfret’s victory over Portsmouth Abbey (RI) last Saturday.
On a rainy Saturday afternoon in Portsmouth, R.I., the Pomfret School defeated a very talented Portsmouth Abbey football squad 7-0. Pomfret’s Connor Quinn scored on a 42 yard run capping an 80 yard drive. The key play on the scoring drive was Leo Driscoll’s 25 yard pass completion to Cam Geary on a 3rd down play with 18 yards to go for a 1st down. Driscoll, a resident of Garden City, was able to deftly avoid a sack on the play and throw the ball across the field for the completion. It was a fitting run for Quinn as earlier he and Driscoll nearly hooked up for the third week in a row on a TD pass of 60 plus yards, but the long pass slipped off Quinn’s hands on the rainy afternoon.
Quarless was outstanding running the ball and had several tackles on defense along with an interception. Quarless, Quinn, Driscoll and Geary and the entire Pomfret team played a great game.
