Matthew Mohen, a first grader from Garden City, is playing for the West Hempstead Broncos, whose pee-wee 6-7 year old team has advanced to in the Nassau Suffolk Football League playoffs, by defeating Plainview. Next Sunday, the Broncos will play in the Pee Wee NFC Championship game. Matthew, who is 6 years old, is 52 inches tall, and seventy pounds, and plays offensive and defensive tackle. The Broncos are coached by former Garden City High School football star Mike “Sunny” McCutcheon, class of 1982, whose son Mike also plays.

The Broncos football team, which is open to everyone regardless of where they live, is also one of the few football programs that is open to Garden City six year olds. The Broncos have teams for players from 6 years old through middle school ages, and also offers girls cheerleading opportunities as well.
