It was an incredible run for Garden City High’s boys soccer team. After completing an undefeated regular season, the team was the number one seed going into the playoffs. Victories over Division, Lynbrook and Jericho led the Trojans to the Nassau County Championship game against the South Side Cyclones on Wednesday, November 11th at Adelphi. The Trojans had already played South Side twice in the regular season. The first matchup ended in a 2-0 win for GC and the second game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Most of the county final was dominated by the Trojans. GC kept South Side goalkeeper Paul Casazza busy by taking numerous shots on goal. George Spanos and the GC defenders didn’t allow anything through and at the end of regulation the score was tied 0-0. The first 15 minute period of overtime was played much like the earlier part of the game. The Trojans seemed to dominate but were still unable to score forcing a second OT period. Unfortunately for the Trojans it only took a minute into the second OT before South Side’s Ben Tetelman scored the game winner and ended what was still an extraordinary season for the Trojans.
Fans of all ages were at Adelphi to cheer on the Trojans. See this photo at www.Newsphoto.com
