HS Seniors Donate Harvest To INN

2009-11-20 / Front Page

Pictured here, donating a portion of the large amount of vegetables planted, cultivated and harvested by volunteers, are high school seniors, Anthony Della Ratta and William Chu. These young men together with Boy Scout Troop 45, the Garden City Bird Sanctuary and the Garden City Community Church Board of Outreach, donated more than 100 pounds of fresh tomatoes, zucchini and eggplant to the Mary Brennan Inn of the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN), in Hempstead, this summer.

The fresh vegetables were used by the INN to serve more than 500 meals daily to hungry families on Long Island. Boy Scout Troop 45, Timberland Store employees, Cipriano Nursery and Garden City Bird Sanctuary volunteers erected a 32ft raised garden in which the produce was planted, watered and harvested.

Congratulations to Anthony and William, and to all the volunteers for helping to feed Long Island families during this time of economic challenge. Every bit helps!
