Troop 243 At Camp Pauch
Dry wood shavings, good idea senior patrol
16 Scout and 6 leaders spent a great weekend at Historic William H. Pauch Scout Camp on Staten Island. Even with the inclement weather resulting from the end of the Hurricane Ida, the Scouts found time between the rain showers to practice their scout skills, share lots of fun, and fulfill their requirements for rank advancement. During their 5 mile hike they were confronted with a simulated emergency where each patrol was required to build a fire with what they had in their packs. The “New Boy Patrol” made up of the boys who most recently joined the troop, had “first fire”. Nice going, “newbees.” For dinner each scout brought his own “foil pack” which was placed in the fire to heat up and, if not overcooked, was enjoyed.
Campfire stories included the much requested “Red Eyed Wolf” and the “Monkeys Paw” told by Mr. Adams and open-ended add-on stories told by the boys themselves.
Hey, What’s in your foil pack?
Scouting gives boys the opportunity to build character and value. They will become the leaders of tomorrow. Troop 243 meets every Sunday evening at St. Joseph’s School Auditorium. Why not come on down to meet us?
