Theodore W. Bean Named Dean of the Cathedral

The Very Reverend Theodore W. Bean, Jr.  The Very Reverend Theodore W. Bean, Jr. The Very Rev. Theodore W. Bean, Jr., Provost of the Cathedral of the Incarnation since November 2005 has been named Dean effective November 13. Although the responsibilities of the Dean and Provost are identical, Bishop Lawrence Provenzano and the Cathedral Chapter chose to honor Father Bean for his long service to the Diocese with the change in title. The Cathedral Parish celebrated this appointment on Sunday, November 15 by providing altar flowers in thanksgiving for their long awaited Dean and with a special coffee hour between the main services at the church.

During his tenure as Provost, a multi-phase, multi-million dollar renovation and repair of the Cathedral and its properties has begun. A large section of the Cathedral’s spire was rebuilt from 2006 to 2008, the carillon restored, and significant upgrades were completed to the Casavant Freres pipe organ. During the summer of 2009 a permanent handicap access ramp was added at the east entrance of the Cathedral.

Dean Bean will continue his responsibilities as Archdeacon for Nassau County of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, a position he has held since January 1, 2004. Prior to his assignment to the Cathedral staff, he served St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Farmingdale from 2001 to 2005 as well as various other parish and pastoral care assignments in Brooklyn and Queens.
