Varsity Girls Swim And Dive Wins 11th Straight County Title

The Girls Varsity Swim and Dive Team traveled to the Nassau County Aquatics Center on November 4th, 6th and 7th to defend their 11th County title. After having outstanding swims in Friday night’s prelims, the girls came in with high hopes for Saturday’s finals season. Even though the team won only one event (Sarah Schlichte (200 Freestyle), the girls swam their way to their 11th consecutive Nassau County title by an overwhelming 194.5 points. Their closest competitor was rival Long Beach. Two Garden City High School Records were also broken, the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Megan Zarriello (200 Butterfly), Kelly McGrath (200 Individual Medley Butterfly). Jenna De Angelo (100 Breaststroke) and Lindsay Schlichte (500 Freestyle) all made New York State Qualifying times in their respective events for the first time this season. Coach Anne Sullivan will be sending 9 swimmers to the New York State Championships on November 20th ad 21st, the most that have ever participated in this Championship Meet from Garden City. Members of the State team include: Sarah Schlichte, Megan Zarriello, Kelly McGrath, Erin Kenny, Gaby Barcklow, Marie Clarkson, Jenna DeAngelo, Lindsay Schlichte and Julia Hall.
