The entire community is invited to “Save a Life” by donating a pint of blood. Students who are 16 years old are eligible to donate, but must have written parental permission. Forms are available on sign-up days or can be obtained online at www.gardencity.k12.ny.us or from www.nybloodcenter.org. Students who are 17 or 18 do not need parental permission. All donors, must weigh 110 pounds or more. A healthy breakfast and lunch is provided for all donors. POLICE REPORT: MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM

ON NOVEMBER 8, a $600 Garmin GPS and a Blackberry were taken from an unlocked car parked at Jackson Street...ALSO ON NOVEMBER 8, someone damaged a $200 window of a Mercury parked on Harrison Street, and then took a Garmin GPS and Rayban glasses...ON OCTOBER 31, a GC resident got home from having watched a baseball game at Community Park and noticed that her credit cards had been taken from her wallet-after a credit card company called her to verify purchases...THIEVES TOOK $4 from an unlocked car at Wyatt Road on November 6...ALSO ON November 6, thieves broke into cars parked on Huntington, Transverse, and Clinton Roads, and each time took coins only...THAT SAME NIGHT, a pocketbook was found (minus $15) at a Transverse Rd. address...On the other side of town, thieves hit cars parked at Boylston St. and stole a $300 GPS...Again that evening, they took a $50 Tom Tom GPS at Locust Street...ON NOVEMBER 3, PO Sommer arrested an 18-year-old Hempstead woman for the alleged theft of a Guess vest valued at $79 at Lord and Taylor...ON NOVEMBER 7, PO Florio arrested a 45-year-old GC man for burglary and stalking (his ex-wife) after he kicked in the door to her residence...A TRUCK STOP was conducted at Clinton Road on November 6, and 9 trucks were inspected with 3 trucks taken out of service and 47 tickets issued...

FIRE RESPONSES:

A BRUSH FIRE occurred at an Edgemere Road area on November 3. Damage was limited to a plastic can, which was the cause... NATIONAL GRID was contacted after an odor of gas was reported at a Cherry Valley Avenue on November 4...CANDLE FUMES activated a smoke detector at Seventh Street on November 6... A SMOKE MACHINE set off an alarm at Adelphi University on November 7...A Parked Car ignited leaves that were piled on the street at Second Street/Hilton Avenue on November 7. A hot exhaust pipe caused the fire but the FD extinguished the fire before any damage to the car occurred...A SMALL CHILD inadvertently pulled an alarm box at NHP Road on November 8... YOUTHS WERE observed lighting leaves at a parking lot at Cherry Valley Avenue on November 8...FIREMEN TRIED to assist a mom looking for her son’s hearing aid at Brixton Road on November 9 but nothing was found...
