ALSO THAT DAY, the auxiliary of the Garden City Community Church, Stewart Ave., is holding its annual Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the beginning of a new tradition which will allow more people to shop and volunteer. Admission is free. There will be 15 sales rooms plus a cafe serving delicious luncheons of crepes, famous chicken salad and other treats. A hot dog cart will be located outside for the kids (little and big) to enjoy. Vendor boutiques will be in the parlor. The Silent Auction offers antiques and collectibles. Attic Treasures will sell a variety and this and that. Linens, china, books, jewelry, frames, gourmet items and toys will all be available. The auxiliary’s famous apple pies and chicken salad will be on sale in the Gourmet Shop. Call 746-1700... POLICE REPORT: MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM

ON OCTOBER 31, PO Oswald arrested a 21-year-old Westbury female for alleged DWI (.09%)... ON NOVEMBER 1, PO Marceda arrested a 48-yrear-old Franklin Square man for the alleged larceny of over $320 in items at Lord and Taylor, which included 2 Black Brown cashmere sweaters and a Joseph Abboud shirt... ON NOVEMBER 3, someone took a wallet containing credit cards and $75, from a handbag at Pay/half, Franklin Avenue... ON NOVEMBER 2, a 2-car accident occurred at 6:15 p.m. at Stewart Avenue. A 22-year-old male’s car was struck by an unknown white vehicle that allegedly sped past him there, cutting him off so that his car lost control and hit a median as well as a light pole.He was seriously injured and transported to Winthrop Hospital. An investigation continues... ALSO THAT DAY, a 41-year-old East Meadow man allegedly made repeated attempts to talk with his ex-wife in violation of an order of protection and he was arrested at County Seat Drive by PO Caputo... ON NOVEMBER 3, Detective Madden arrested a 31-year-old Roosevelt man for allegedly punching the side mirror of his ex-wife’s car parked at a Stewart Avenue business... ALSO THAT DAY, Detective Rothermel arrested a 50-year-old Amityville man and an employee at the auto body shop, for allegedly taking a sledgehammer to a 2001 Infiniti parked at the GC Auto Body at Commercial Avenue. It seems the man’s temper got the best of him as he also took 2 batteries and towing equipment at over $670... BETWEEN OCTOBER 29 and 30, someone damaged the rear window of a 2008 Infiniti parked at Weyford Terrace... BETWEEN OCTOBER 24 and 30, someone took a Lawn Boy mower valued at $350 from a Grove St. residence... PO Walsh arrested a 21-year-old GC female for allegedly damaging a French Connection shirt while she allegedly attempted to steal it at Lord and Taylor on October 27 at 6:45 p.m. She evidently also liked headbands-for she also allegedly had two sequin ones in her possession... A 38-YEAR-OLD Uniondale man was arrested for the alleged larceny of a wallet containing credit cards and $20, from another employee at the GC Hotel on October 27... A $3,000 BLACK Nissan Maxima was taken from County Field 7 on October 28... ON OCTOBER 30, 9:30 a.m., police as well as the County Bomb Squad responded to the scene of a suspicious package at GC Plaza. A male described as white, 50’s, salt/pepper hair, wearing a blue jacket with a blue military hat delivered a package there. When it was refused he made an alarming statement and left the area. The package was determined to be safe however an investigation continues...

FIRE RESPONSES:

AN OVEN was shut down after a carbon monoxide alarm went off at a Cambridge Avenue on October 28... A LAB EXPERIMENT that caused smoke set off an alarm at Adelphi University on October 29... On October 31, a faulty dishwasher overheated and caused alarm at Franklin Avenue... A SMOKE MACHINE at the Performing Arts Center at Adelphi University set off an alarm there on November 1... That’s all this week. G.T.
