“The New Face Of Lung Cancer: Personalized Medicine” Winthrop-University Hospital’s Advances in Cancer Care educational series will offer a free program, “The New Face of Lung Cancer: Personalized Medicine,” on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at 7:00 PM. It will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard at the corner of Second Street in Mineola. Jeffrey Schneider, MD, Director of the Lung Cancer Center at Winthrop, will explain a new approach to personalized treatment and how it promises to provide meaningful breakthroughs for patients. A question and answer period will follow the lecture. “Historically a ‘one size fits all’ approach to lung cancer has proven unsatisfactory,” said Dr. Schneider. “Recent scientific breakthroughs demonstrate that every tumor has its own unique genetic fingerprint. Using this knowledge, new treatment strategies are now being more effectively targeted to each individual patient’s cancer.” Parking and the entrance are at the rear of the building. Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Please call (516) 663-9370 to reserve your space. The Advances in Cancer Care series is a free community health education program presented by the Institute for Cancer Care at Winthrop. For information on other educational programs offered at Winthrop, please call the Welcome Center at 1-866-WINTHROP.
