Sebastian Barry’s The Secret Scripture Tuesday, December 1st at 12:00 PM

The Garden City Public Library is excited to announce an upcoming Lunch Bag Book Talk which will take place on Tuesday, December 1st at 12:00PM. The thought provoking book to be discussed is The Secret Scripture, an epic story of family, love, and unavoidable tragedy by two time Man Booker Prize finalist Sebastian Barry. Acclaimed author Sebastian Barry has written an elegant and intelligent novel of love, murder, betrayal and sacrifice.

Told through the journals of Roseanne McNulty and her psychiatrist Dr. Grene, the story that emerges of Roseanne’s family in 1930s Sligo is at once shocking and deeply beautiful. Refracted through the haze of memory and retelling, Roseanne’s story becomes an alternative, secret history of Ireland. Exquisitely written, The Secret Scripture is the story of a life blighted by terrible mistreatment and ignorance, and yet marked still by love and passion and hope.
