The Garden City Retired Men’s Club is a non-profit membership organization formed in April 1961 for the purpose of providing educational and recreational activities for the retired male senior citizens of the Garden City Community. The organization is non-sectarian and non-political.

All retired men 55 years or older residing in the Incorporated Village of Garden City, in the state of New York are eligible for membership upon paying a five (5) dollar initiation fee. If you are eligible and interested in joining us, please come by. Every Monday is Open House. Or call Joe Leto at 248-9022.

The Club House facility is located at No. 6 Golf Club Lane (directly behind Lord & Taylor parking lot). The building is open every day of the week, except Friday, and offers two regulation size pool tables, television, cards/table board games as well as outdoor bocce, horseshoes and shuffleboard. Our Program Committee is planning a very active speaker program. You are invited to join us!

Concerned About Health Care?

Robert R. McMillan, an attorney with a major Mineola based firm and a Garden City resident, will be the guest speaker at the Garden City Retired Men’s Club on Monday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. His topic will be “The Current Health Care Insurance Debate,” a subject for which he is very well qualified. Bob recently completed a six-year term on the National Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association and a ten year term on the Board of Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

His impressive and valued resume of his earlier career includes, among others, a 1988 (unsuccessful) run as a Republican for the US Senate, a 1993 appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Commission, and co-host for the PBS TV Show “Face-Off” for 14 years.

In short, the members of the Retired Men’s Club can look forward to an informative and timely meeting on November 16.

FLU Season Is Here

It May Be Repetitious,

But This is Important.

The flu season is upon us. It’s serious. Use the spray, remove standing water, be careful and get your flu shots . The standard flu vaccine is available now. The swine flu vaccine should be ready soon.

Meanwhile Felicia will maintain the same schedule for another week or two. Twice a day , three times a week. Felicia, we can’t thank you enough. Join her any Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:15 or 10:30 AM. Classes are free and the exercise is great.

Another great way to exercise ... Bowling ... Come bowl with us at Herrill Lanes any Friday at 12:45 p.m. If you care to join us, call Ron Zwicke at 747-6842. You will be happy with the results.

Merchant Marine Academy Luncheon Is Set To Go

Wednesday Nov. 18th is the date set for our next Merchant Marine Academy luncheon. The menu will feature Irish lamb stew w/boiled potatoes and seasonal vegetables. We must turn in our reservation request no later than Wednesday, November 11th, so please call Ed Palkot at 437-0397 as soon as possible. We will car pool from the Golf Club Lane Center at 11:30 am. Ladies are invited.
