The activities of the ensemble include a concert series with organ, brass and timpani, a touring program, a college/university recital/workshop series, and an arts-in-education Young Audience Program. The ensemble has an enthusiastic following on Long Island, New York City, Westchester, Upstate New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. Celebrations has premiered a number of new works by American composers, including the “Concerto for Brass Quintet, a Regal Universe” written by Long Island composer, Frank Brazinski, in 1995 for the 20 th Anniversary season of Celebrations Brass. This composition gained a Pulitzer Prize nomination for Mr. Branzinski.
Members of the group draw upon diverse musical backgrounds including performances with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York City Ballet, New York City Opera Orchestra, Concert Royal, Tafelmusik, Philharmonic Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Mozartean Players, New York Collegium, Ensemble for Early Music, New York Grande Bande, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Apollo’s Fire, recordings, Broadway shows, big bands, jazz and chamber music. Since all of the members of Celebrations Brass are active performers in the early music movement, and the original mission of Celebrations included a strong commitment to early music performance practices, a part of most of Celebrations brass programs is performed on period instruments.
