Girls’ Varsity Soccer Celebrates “Senior Day”
      The GCHS Girls’ varsity soccer team celebrated “Senior Day” with their moms last week. The team is graduating 12 seniors at the end of this season. On Senior Day, the senior players and their moms exchange flowers immediately prior to the last home game of the regular season, and is a longstanding tradition in Garden City.

      The Garden City U-10 Strikers played in the Windsor Soccer Tournament over Columbus Day Weekend. The Strikers were undefeated, allowed only two goals against and placed first.

Garden City Thunder O’Connor 8s Dismantle Mineola
      In what was billed as the quintessential match-up of two unbeaten teams little doubt was left in the stadium at the finish of last Friday Night Lights match-up between Garden City and Mineola. After winning the opening toss the Thunder offense put on a display of smash mouth football.

      The 2010 spring lacrosse season is just around the corner and registration for Garden City Rams Girls’ Lacrosse Program (GCRGL) starts October 5th and will end on December 19th, 2009. GCRGL is open to all girls from grades 3 to 8 who live or go to school within the Village of Garden City.

Varsity Swimmers Attend Long Beach Invitational
      On Saturday, October 24th, the up and coming swimmers on the Varsity Girls Swim and Dive team traveled to Long Beach to participate in the Long Beach Invitational. For some of the swimmers, this was their championship meet and the culmination of their Varsity season. Thirteen girls attended the meet. Everyone swam great with almost every swim a best time.

GC Varsity Field Hockey
      In their last regular season home game the Garden City Trojans varsity field hockey team defeated the Manhasset Indians 5-1. The Indians fought hard to keep the game close and went into the half trailing 2-1. The second half of the game began much like the first until the Trojans found their rhythm and scored three more goals and went on to win the game.

      If you had to pick the Garden City High quarterback out of a lineup, you might not choose Matt Montgomery. He’s not six-four and he doesn’t weigh 200 pounds. In fact, he’s closer to five-ten and 170. What can’t be measured on a chart, however, is competitive spirit and the ability to come through when it matters most.

REGISTRATION FOR PRESCHOOL ARTS AND CRAFTS HAS BEGUN
      The Garden City Recreation Department will run a Preschool Arts & Crafts program in Cluett Hall for children who are 3 1/2 to 5 years of age. This program is open to Garden City residents only. Each week your child will make a project to take home following the seasons, holidays, or other interesting topics. Our classes run for six weeks and are 45 minutes long.
