To help children learn about safety, the Nassau Red Cross will open its doors for a Halloween Safety Party, for children, ages 6 to 11. They are invited to participate in carnival style games and a haunted house. They will also learn what to do if a friend is choking; what to do if approached by a stranger; and other ways to remain safe while trick or treating. Children are encouraged to wear costumes; however, they are to be non-violent with no weapons, nor full-face masks. Admission is $5 per child and attendees must register in advance. The cost for this ghoulish event is $65 per person purchased in advance or $75 per person at the door - and all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem

ON OCTOBER 27, an 18-year-old Westbury man allegedly attempted to steal $693 in items at Chico’s, Seventh Street, Garden City. He allegedly placed several items under a brown coat with leopard sleeves he had allegedly stolen, while attempting to exit the store. A security person tried to stop him and the thief allegedly tried to bite him. Police successfully arrested the thief on a charge of robbery 3rd... ON OCTOBER 26, a 28-year-old Jamaica woman allegedly took over $1,000 in clothing items including a BCBG shirt, a BCBG jumper, 3 Free People shirts, Lucky jeans, 2 Buffalo shirts, and 2 Guess jeans at Lord and Taylor... BETWEEN OCTOBER 18 and 21, a 4700 Trek bicycle was taken from an unlocked garage at First Street... On October 25, GC Detectives arrested an 18-year-old GC male for the possession of marijuana at Kilburn Road/North Avenue after observing him rolling a marijuana cigarette there... ON OCTOBER 22, 6:30 p.m., a $1200 SONY laptop computer was removed form an unlocked Mercedes parked at Seventh Street... ON OCTOBER 21, 3:10 a.m., PO Oswald arrested a 23-year-old Hempstead man for alleged DWI (.19%), alleged speeding, no license, unsafe lane change, no passing zone, no seat belt, no insurance, and obstructed view at Clinton Road... ALSO ON OCTOBER 21, PO Walsh arrested a 28-year-old Hempstead man for aggravated unlicensed operation ( 9 suspensions, 5 dates) after he was involved in a 2-car-accident at County Seat Drive. He was taken to the hospital for injuries, however, the other driver, was not hurt... Between October 20 and 21, at Filbert Street, two cars were found with items missing. A Dell computer, Garmin GPS, and hand tools, with a value of $1700, was taken from one car, and a baby stroller and miscellaneous items were taken from the other...

A TREE CAME DOWN at Franklin Court on October 24. DPW was notified after the FD made the area safe... NATURAL VENTILATION was used to clear smoke caused by the failure of an occupant to open a fireplace flue at a Roxbury residence on the same day... FIREMEN SUCCESSFULLY handled a lockout at Primrose Court on October 26, with no damage...That’s all this week. G. T.
