U-12 Garden City Girl’s Shock
U-12 Garden City Girl’s Shock The U-12 Garden City girl’s Shock continued their impressive play this past Saturday with a convincing 2-0 win over the Syosset Eagles. The girls are unbeaten and unscored upon to start the Fall season of the LIJSL. To say they play strong defense would be an understatement. Including the Covanta preseason tournament and the Columbus Day Windsor tournament, the Shock have lost only one game in the last 14 contests and they are determined to finish strong over the the balance of the season.

The Shock mix up their offensive assault with a combination of power and speed, rotating forwards Caroline Kenny, Brook Mcdaid, Emma Costello, Annie Walsh, Katie Gillan and Tierney Minion. The speedy and powerful midfield is normally staffed with a combination of Julia Forbes, Olivia Giarraputo, Alana Macleod, Caitlin Cunnigham and Kathleen Vierengel. Their rock solid defense is anchored by the rotation of Kerry McCarraher, Juliana Kubler, Annie Randazzo, Maddie McCabe, Lily Shannon and Alana McAndrews. Opposing teams have had their troubles getting through the Shock’s defensive lines, and when they do, they are usually turned away by rock solid keeper Jane Stone.

The Shock recently took their show on the road, joining the annual GC Centennials pilgrimage to Windsor, CT. Losing their only contest of the year to the eventual champion, the Shock took third place and improved noticeably with every contest. The weekend also provided the Shock with an opportunity to bond with one another both on and off the field. Its easy to realize why they have come together so nicely as a team, when you see them all together at a weekend like Windsor.

The Shock take to the road on Saturday, facing the always tough Island Trees Lady Bulldogs, returning home on Halloween, hopefully to “scare off” West Hempstead.
