GC Rovers Blow The Dix Hills Hurricanes Away

2009-10-23 / Sports

Ok, so we didn’t exactly blow them away, however the Rovers did erode their unblemished record. For 2 years Dix Hills has been the elite in U10 soccer and came in to GC to add to their 4-0 record this year. The Rovers had other thoughts on their minds. With the motto it only takes one time(thanks Little Giants movie) the Rovers went out and took it to their foe. Constant pressure and pounding on the Hurricane players resulted in a scoreless first half although both teams had some great chances. Great goal minding by “Hands” Muldoon kept the Hurricanes at bay. The Defensive unit of Wieland, Honan and Wuchte kept the ‘Canes from breaking the levy’s. While the midfielders Connolly, Desantis, Murphy, Handal kept pushing thru the cold winds at St. Pauls for some brilliant play and passes. The forwards of Coppola and Skahill kept the Hurricane’s defense under constant pressure and looking for answers on where to go with the ball. Andrew Desantis took a great pass from Mike Handal and put a great bending dropping shot over the Dix Hills goalie to knot the game at 1-1. It was a great tie and had many other coaches emailing coach Connolly and J. Wieland(the greater Wieland coach) congratulating them on their upset. We definitely have to give Matt Granville the trooper of the game award for coming out and trying to help his team knock the Hurricanes out to sea. Matt was sick all week and although looked a little white at game time he gave it a try and when on the sidelines kept his teammates moral up. Thanks boys for picking up the void left by Matt’s absence and for Matt being their to complete the TEAM Rover’s. Next up is our soccer neighbors RVC Thunder where the Rovers will show that their Bark is louder then the RVC’s thunder. Thanks again to the parents and friends for a great turnout. Thanks for the blue gloves Murphy’s.
