Primary Schools Learn About Good Choices
      On Tuesday, September 29th grades K-1 from Hemlock, Homestead and Locust primary schools had the pleasure of gathering at Stewart for a performance by Lou Del Bianco called “Make A Good Choice”. Lou is an actor, singer and storyteller that teaches children about honesty, responsibility and tolerance.

      Garden City community members are being asked to go to the polls on Tuesday, October 27th. On the ballot: a School Investment Bond to address substantial facilities and space needs throughout the district. Each of the district’s nine buildings will be impacted by the bond proposal.

Cathedral Nursery School Visits Pumpkin Farm!
      Cathedral Nursery School took their science studies on the road this month with a trip to Schmitt’s Pumpkin Farm in Melville on October 8th. Bank, Junior League Help Prepare Kids For School
      Astoria Federal Savings completed its 10th annual Kids Tools for School collection drive in August, experiencing its most successful drive ever. Customers and partners in the community dropped off cash donations and brand new school supplies at Astoria Federal branches to help prepare children for the start of school.

      Upon completion of a rigorous application process, seven Garden City High School students were selected as winners in the 2009 Adelphi Prize for Leadership competition. The winners were honored at a reception on September 23rd at Adelphi University.

      The New York State Archives has awarded Certificates of Merit to the Stewart School Quest students for their research on the Long Island Motor Parkway. Their entry, a movie, entitled The Long Island Motor Parkway - the World’s First Highway, was the product of a semester long research project.

GCHS Students Participate In Suicide Prevention Walk
      On October 4th, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) hosted its seventh annual “Out of the Darkness” walk at Old Westbury Gardens. The walk was used to raise awareness of suicide and suicide prevention. Garden City High School students from SADD, health class, and psychology class attended this year’s event.
