ANNUAL “FALL FESTIVAL STREET FAIR”,

HOMECOMING PARADE and 75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MEN’S ASSOCIATION

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, 2009 will be a very festive day in our Village marked by the Chamber of Commerce’s 30th annual “Fall Festival Street Fair”, combined with the annual High School Homecoming Day Parade, annual Street Fair and 75th Anniversary of the Men’s Association. Bring your family, enjoy the community spirit and fun. Support the Men’s Association with the purchase of a raffle ticket for the chance to win $10,000.

The Chamber’s Street Fair on Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and will run through mid-afternoon. Seventh Street, between Franklin and Hilton Avenues, will be closed to all traffic from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. For your convenience, please use the Hilton and Franklin Avenue entrances to Parking Field 7S and the Stewart Avenue entrances to Parking Field 7N. The High School’s Homecoming Parade will step off promptly at 11:30 a.m. from the most easterly end of Seventh Street and proceed west along Seventh Street to Cathedral Avenue, north onto Stewart Avenue, west to Oxford Boulevard and north to the High School parking field. The Homecoming festivities and football game will follow the Parade at the Warren King Field.

PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO KEEP GARDEN CITY PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY

Residents are reminded that it is their responsibility to maintain the shrubs and trees on their property to assure that branches do not overhang and obstruct the Incorporated Village by doing your part to keep Garden City a pedestrian friendly community.

OUTDOOR DINING: A BIG HIT

It is wonderful to see so many Garden City residents as well as visitors to our Village enjoying alfresco dining on New Hyde Park Road, Franklin Avenue and Seventh Street. This year there are over twenty-five businesses that have permits. There is no doubt that alfresco dining is an overwhelming success. I encourage residents to come early and combine shopping with dining outside at their favorite place. The outdoor dining will continue through the month of November.

TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD E-CYCLING PROGRAM

I have been advised by the Town of Hempstead that they are holding an E-Cycling Day on Saturday, October 24, 2009, so you can make the “green choice” and e-cycle. Simply bring your old computers, TVs, DVD players, VCR’s, computer components and other electronic equipment to Baldwin Park, 3232 South Grand Avenue, Baldwin from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The town accepts computers, peripherals, TVs electronic games, radios, DVD and VHS players and more. All computers are shredded, destroying sensitive computer data. Thank you for helping keep our planet “green”. For more please call the Town of Hempstead Department of Sanitation at 378-2200.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES’ MEETING SCHEDULE

The next regularly scheduled Board of Trustees’ meetings for the month of November are November 5 and November 19, 2009.

VILLAGE’S WEB SITE

I encourage residents to periodically utilize the Village’s website for information regarding the Village’s operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. For your convenience, listed on the Village’s home page is a direct link to the Garden City Chamber of Commerce.
