ON SATURDAY, October 24, come to the annual Haunted House for Cancer Research will take place on Oct. 24 and 25 from 3 to 9 p.m. at 92 Meadow St., Garden City. Rain or shine. The event is held each year and it is a wonderful way for families and kids of all ages to enjoy some Halloween fun and take part in raising money for a good cause. For a $5 admission fee you can be escorted through a haunted mansion by a ghoul or a friendly witch (student volunteers), walk through a haunted graveyard and enjoy some delicious Halloween bake sale goods. All proceeds benefit the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research and the MIRACLE Foundation (donation checks are welcomed and are tax deductible). POLICE REPORT: MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM

ON OCTOBER 20 , after 6 p.m., detectives arrested a 20-year-old NHP male and a 22-year-old GC Park male for the possession of marijuana at Chester Avenue after a report came in for suspicious persons...On the same day, two GMC vehicles were found with damaged side view mirrors at Field 14; $800 to each in damage... ON OCTOBER 18 , police arrested a 22-year-old Rosedale female for attempting to deposit a fraudulent check valued at $9,000 at Wachovia Bank. She was charged with attempted grand larceny and with the criminal possession of a forged instrument... Also on October 18, PO Francassa arrested a 23-year-old NHP male for alleged DWI (.10%), unsafe lane change, and no insurance at Wetherill Rd., after he was observed making an unsafe start of his car there... ON OCTOBER 14 , 12:30 p.m., someone took a $375 Windmill backpack blower and a $650 Kawasaki line trimmer at Second Street... PO DALLOLIO ALLEGEDL Y observed a 39-year-old Franklin Square male allegedly speeding at 52 in a 30 mph zone at Nassau Blvd. on October 18 at 12:40 a.m., and the motorist was arrested for that alleged offense as well as alleged DWI (.12%)... PO WALSH arrested a 45-year-old Uniondale woman for the alleged shoplifting of earrings and Lands End clothing at Sears on October 14...Also that day, four flower pots valued at $200 and 1 scarecrow valued at $30, were stolen from a Brixton Road residence... PO FLORIO arrested a 55-year-old GC male in a car parked at the Country Life Press RR Station on October 9. Police are also investigating the possibility of a domestic incident... ON THE SAME DAY , PO Sommer arrested a 46-year-old Hempstead male for alleged excessive speed, passing a stop sign, and for the criminal possession of marijuana at Tenth Street... ON OCTOBER 16, PO Sommer arrested a 23-year-old Brooklyn female for the alleged theft of $38 in gloves, 1 Trina Turk dress at $268, 1 Tibi skirt at $285, and 1 Tibi dress at $269, and a $58 Juicy necklace, at Lord and Taylor...PO WEDRA arrested a 34-year-old Hempstead male for the alleged attempt to withdraw $4200 in cash on the same day he had deposited a forged check for $9,000, at a local bank... ON OCTOBER 17 , 3:38 a.m., PO Dallolio arrested a 23-year-old GC male for alleged DWI (.22%) at Cathedral Ave./ Sixth Street. The motorist allegedly made a turn on a “No Right On Red,”disobeyed a traffic control device, and refused a field test for sobriety... ON OCTOBER 16 , a Garmin GPS valued at $220 was stolen from a car parked at Bluebell Court...On October 16, a 45-year-old Hempstead man was arrested for allegedly having taken $328 in medicines and makeup at CVS. The man also had an outstanding warrant from Hempstead for petit larceny and a Nassau County warrant for the possession of a controlled substance... BETWEEN OCTOBER 16 and 18, someone damaged 10 fence posts valued at $200 and 3 village signs valued at $300, at a North Avenue residence... ON OCTOBER 18 , a thief took a person’s clothes, which included pants, belt, and underwear from a locker at the GC Sports Club, Franklin Avenue... ON OCTOBER 14 , someone damaged a 2009 BMW by scratching the sides of it, when it was parked at Field 6...On October 19, a truck stop was conducted at Commercial Avenue/Clinton Road. 12 trucks were inspected with 7 trucks taken out of service; 3 for weight violations, with 57 tickets issued...

FIRE RESPONSES:

STEAM FROM a shower in a dorm room at Adelphi University set off an alarm there on October 15...A small amount of water on a floor at a Fairmount Blvd. location triggered an alarm on October 17... FD Ventilated a Monroe Street house where there was a carbon monoxide reading as a result of a fire in a fireplace, on October 19... ON OCTOBER 19 , there was a report of an explosion in the vicinity of the high school and it turned out to be a broken fuse link on a primary electrical wire in the parking lot there. No wires came down and LIPA was notified... FIREMEN SHUT down a boiler at a Kensington Road house on October 20...
