Fall Festival Street Fair, Homecoming Parade

As is tradition, Maureen and Cummin Clancy (Clancy & Clancy Brokerage, Inc.) will raffle off a giant pumpkin at 114 Seventh St. The Garden City Chamber of Commerce’s 30th Fall Festival Street Fair - in conjunction with Garden City High School’s Homecoming Day Parade is set for this Saturday, October 24. The Street Fair festivities will begin at 10 a.m., with activities running until 3 p.m. Since Seventh Street will be closed until 5 p.m., participating shops, businesses, restaurants and community organizations may continue to display their wares throughout the afternoon should they wish.

The Garden City High School Homecoming Day Parade will step off at the east end of Seventh Street at 11:30 a.m. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., there will be plenty of fun activities for the kids to include two fire engine trains running up and down Seventh Street; the ever popular Money Cube; an inflatable circus bounce; and new this year, will be characters promoting WINTUK by Cirque du Soleil who will stilt-walk, play, and clown their way up and down Seventh Street. Powerhouse Entertainment will provide some upbeat music and the Fivestone classic contemporary rock band, a hit at the July Restaurant Fair, will perform in front of Leo’s. There will be sidewalk sales and lots of great food from local restaurants and eateries. Tickets for the kids activities may be purchased at the Chamber table in front of Joseph & Joseph Men’s store, 132 Seventh St.

The Chamber acknowledges its sponsors: Flushing Bank, major event sponsor (Money Cube); Bank of Smithtown (Fire Engine Train); Verizon (Musical Entertainment); and Denise L. Emma, DDS, specialist in orthodontics (Circus Bounce). The Chamber also recognizes the Men’s Association of the Garden City High School, contributing event sponsor. The organization, which is grateful to the business community for its contributions toward its efforts over the years, is celebrating its 75th Anniversary. There will not be a rain date. Should the Festival be cancelled there will be a recording on the Chamber telephone line (746-7724) at 9 a.m. or before.
