Cherry Valley Golf Results

Twelfth Annual Jay Gallagher Memorial Tournament
      The Garden City Youth Lacrosse Program and Jay Gallagher Memorial Foundation hosted The Twelfth Annual Jay Gallagher Memorial Tournament on June 20th and June 21ST, 2009. The tournament raises funds and public awareness for the Andy Foundation, Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation and the Miracle Foundation. One hundred and six teams participated from the northeast region.

Xtreme Champions At Rocky Hill Tournament
      This past weekend, the Garden City Xtreme, girls U13 soccer team, traveled to Connecticut to participate in the Rocky Hill Columbus Day Tournament. The Xtreme played terrific soccer against some new competition and were undefeated in their four matches. The team scored a total of 13 goals, while holding their opponents scoreless for the entire tournament.

Young Local Diver Wins The Gold
      At the 2009 Big Apple Diving Invitational, Cameron Yuen competed in his very first meet. His teammates from Long Island Divers cheered him on as he performed three different dives with great concentration and calmness. He came in first for the “6 and Under Boys 1 meter Novice” catergory.

Ski Club To Host Physical Therapy Event
      A pre-season presentation highlighting physical therapy and its role in fitness for skiers will take place at 8 PM on Wednesday, October 21, at a meeting of the Garden City Ski Club. The event will take place a the Knights of Columbus Hall at 1000 Marcus Avenue in New Hyde Park.

GC Raiders Go Undefeated, Win Division
      Over the Columbus Day weekend, the Garden City Raiders U-12 boys soccer team played five games and came away with a victory in each one. Both the offense and defense of the Raiders were formidable opponents for the competition.

Thunder 8s Tame Hempstead Tigers
      This past Sunday the O’Connor Thunder 8s took on their cross town rivals from Hempstead. Stewart Field was the venue for the 9:00am kick-off. This game was a classic look a head trap for the Thunder 8s as a Saturday night Farmingdale game was next on the schedule.

GC Rovers Storm Connecticut
      The GC Rovers got their first taste of Windsor Soccer Tournament and it was delicious. The boys played some of their best soccer of the year and took on some of best Connecticut had to offer. In their first game the Rovers were matched up with a Farmington team that was previously undefeated and one of the state’s top programs.

      GCAA, an entity that has been running sports in Garden City for over 50 years, is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 basketball season. The application can be downloaded from the GCAA website, www.gc-aa.com.

Girls Varsity Soccer Hosts South Side
      On an increasingly colder and windier afternoon, the Garden City Trojans girls soccer team played host to the South Side Cyclones of Rockville Centre for a Conference 1 game on Tuesday October 13th. South Side’s Crystal Dunn scored two goals, one off an assist from Carly Beyar, to lead the Cyclones to a 2-0 victory. Mersina Onesto made six saves for the Cyclones.

13th Annual TMA Garden City Family Football Classic
      The Men’s Association of Garden City and the Andy Foundation are presently accepting team applications and sponsorships for the 2009 Football Classic. The tournament will be held on Saturday, November 28th from 11 am - 4 pm at St. Paul’s field. Entry fee is $30 per adult and $15 per child and includes lunch and trophies.

Bombers Win Windsor Tournament
      The Garden City U-12 Bombers played in the Windsor Soccer Tournament over Columbus Day Weekend. The Bombers went 5-0-0, allowed only one goal against and took home the 1st Place trophy. GC Boys Varsity Soccer
      The Garden City Trojans and the South Side Cyclones boys varsity soccer teams battled to a 2-2 tie Friday afternoon October 9th at Garden City High School. James Mignon scored two goals for Garden City. Topher DiBona & Teddy Tomao both had assists. Goalie George Spanos had six saves for Garden City. For South Side Mark Romanowski and Mike Marano each scored one goal.

Varsity Girls Swimming Adds Two More Wins
      The Varsity Girls Swimming and Diving Team added two more wins this past week, increasing their record to 5 and 0. The team swam a very talented Sewanhaka team but proved that depth counts and once again recorded a convincing win. The meet saw two NY State Qualifying times, one from Sarah Schlichte (500 Free) and another from Megan Zarriello (100 back).

      The atmosphere around Warren King Field last Saturday had all the characteristics of a playoff game. A crowd of nearly 2,500 largely filled the stands, with hundreds of fans standing behind the end zone.
