Winthrop Hosts “Girls’ Night Out”
Ladies, come enjoy a night out with friends while you learn about the most recent advances in women’s health and wellness. Winthrop-University Hospital’s Spirit of Women(r) community education series will offer a free program, “Girls’ Night Out: Latest News in Women’s Health” on Monday, October 26, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. The comprehensive program will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard in Mineola (parking and the entrance are in the rear of the building). The event will include lectures and a health fair designed to raise awareness of common women’s health issues and promote general well-being.
The program will feature talks presented by Winthrop physicians on a variety of topics relevant to women’s health. They include: Bhawna Halwin, MD, Attending Physician from the Division of Gastroenterology, who will highlight women’s gastrointestinal issues; Alisha Orapollo, MD, Attending Vascular Surgeon, from the Division of Vascular Surgery, will speak about vascular health and varicose veins; Peter S. Finamore, MD, Associate Director of Urogynecology and George Lazarou, MD, Director of Gynecology from the Division of Urogynecology, will discuss pelvic floor health and pelvic reconstruction; Jeannine Villella, DO, Attending Physician, Division of Gynecological Oncology, will address gynecological cancers; Nina D’Abreo, MD, Attending Physician from the Division of Hematology/Oncology, will focus on breast cancer; and Paula Lester, MD, from the Division of Geriatrics, will advise about flu prevention.
The health fair will feature health and medical information as well as lifestyle topics such as scrapbooking and make-up application tips.
