“Trouble Sleeping? Causes & Remedies”

Sleep disorders affect approximately 40 million Americans (1 in 6 people). If you have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep through the night, or if you wake up feeling tired or feel very sleepy during the day even when you have had enough sleep, you may have a treatable sleep disorder.

To learn more, the public is invited to attend Winthrop-University Hospital’s Perspectives in Health series free lecture, “Trouble Sleeping? Causes & Remedies” on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at 7:00 PM. The program will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard at the corner of Second Street in Mineola.

Qanta Ahmed, MD, Attending Physician at Winthrop Sleep Disorders Center, will provide an overview of the symptoms, diagnostic process and treatment options for common sleep problems. Dr. Ahmed will also address their possible causes and provide tips for lifestyle changes that may improve your quality of sleep. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

Dr. Ahmed is board certified in Sleep Disorders Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. She is an active regional, national and international educator.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 6:45 PM for registration. Parking and the entrance are available in the rear of the building. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. To reserve a space, please call (516) 663-8300.

Winthrop’s Sleep Disorders Center, the first sleep medicine program in Nassau County to be accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (1990), is the longest, continually accredited sleep center on Long Island. It is also the first accredited “paperless” center in the world, with sleep studies digitally recorded and archived. For information on the Sleep Disorders Center or other programs at the Hospital, please call 1-866-WINTHROP.
