“Surf And Turf”
An exhibition of works by Long Island artist Elizabeth P. McMahon will be featured at the Barnes Gallery in Garden City South from November 3 through November 30. A reception will be held November 7, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
A life long resident of Long Island, McMahon finds inspiration in her vibrant natural surroundings. Whether it be hidden coves, glistening bays, meandering creeks or wild surf, her work captures the feeling of both shores. Her interest in the natural world has led her to teach for 38 years at The American Museum of Natural History and to have discussions and criticism with world renowned Canadian artist, naturalist, environmentalist Robert Bateman. Her work has appeared in many juried shows and galleries including the Hoorn Ashby Gallery in New York. Currently she may be seen at the Fiedler Gallery in Greenport, New York.
With a degree in the History of Art, McMahon spent several years in the commercial world and published five books for children. After studying oil painting with Frank Mason, at the Art Students League, McMahon began painting fulltime. She works in oil, watercolor and gouache, and most recently, acrylic.
