The popular mummy wrap contest at Halloween Fest Oct 17th Once again, the phenomenal Halloween Fest and Haunted Hikes will be held at the Garden City Bird Sanctuary opposite 181 Tanners Pond Road Saturday September 17th from 4 through 9PM. Prepare for a fun and spooky time for all ages. This will be the biggest and best attended Halloween event in the Village, with a limit of 400 attendees participating. Volunteers will be setting up the trails Oct 9 and 10 with hundreds of spider webs, ghosts, and goblins, and the guided “haunted Hikes” will start at sundown on Oct 17th. Come early and participate in the fun crafts and games, potato sack races, mummy wrapping and bring home a decorated pumpkin and goody bag. There are many prizes for boys and girls!!!! The Costume parade will start at 5:30! Tickets are $10 per person.

The escorted haunted hikes are a very popular feature of the Halloween Fest. You can chose “scary” or “not so scary” and be guided along the trail by volunteers from Garden City High School and Adelphi students, learning a bit about nature and pollution along the way. Hikes take about 20 minutes, and groups are organized by the main entrance to the trail. You might see Garden City elementary school science teacher as Dr’s Death’s Global Warming warning, the ghost of Mark Twain, or the invasive vine that ate Long Island.

Claire Werner and Suzie Alvey wrapping some of the prizes for Halloween Fest 2009 Hot dogs, coffee, hamburgers, and hot cocoa will be available for purchase, and the special Garden City Bird Sanctuary coffee mugs will be on sale for $5 with a free cup of coffee or hot chocolate included.
