Do you remember when we were all taught “Neatness Counts”? We also learned “Everything had a place and we were to keep everything in its place.” Well, those days seem to be gone forever. You can tell that because the candy wrapper, the soda or water bottle, or the coffee cup that was purchased to give them the energy to walk the distance home from the railroad or school is usually tossed on your lawn when empty or on the street or into the shrubs on Seventh Street (where there are trash containers lined up on both sides of the street to receive them), or the homeowner gets to dispose of them. These items all have their own place and it would be easier on all if they went home with the user and placed in his or her trash. What are they thinking is my thought while cleaning up after them. Lets all bring neatness back!
Sal Catania and Tom Richmond have been offering those wonderful Monday Movies and the crowds come. Recently they had a movie on the Waltz King Johann Strauss that practically had the audience ready to dance in the aisles. Sal said they couldn’t but the movie and the music had the likes of Ellie Marshall, Valerie Lemkul, Paula Rega, Nancy Fardelmann and Jan MacDougall ready to take to the the floor. They could have had partners as there were at least sixteen gentlemen in the audience. There was also a pre-movie discussion about the waltz as a dance - it was risque when it first came out as the gentleman had to put his hand on the ladies waist. Think of that!
At Adelphi University recently a number of folks enjoyed seeing two beautiful paintings by Camille Pissarro and a sculpture by Auguste Rodin titled “L’Eternel Printemps” on loan from the collection of Adele Klapper . They were truly beautiful and enjoying them were Maureen and Duncan Fraser, Alice Brown, Joan Kuster, Regina Dowling, Paula Rega, and the Kasselbergers . It was truly beautiful to see them in the lovely setting of the new Adele and Herbert J. Klapper Center for Fine Arts.
