Thunder 9’s Win Over East Rockaway
The Maroon 9 year old boys fought out a hard willed win over a big and strong East Rockaway squad last Sunday at Stewart field. The boys competed hard for four quarters and displayed their skills on offense and defense to come away with the victory In the first quarter, Kyle Steinbach had a long breakaway run of over 50 yards for a touchdown that showed all the boys how hard, tough blocking can yield great results. The offensive line play of Mark Michon, Matt Flanagan, Matt DiSimpliciis and Will Honan was tremendous, not to mention the pulling guard technique of Patrick Kavan, Jack Dignam and Aidan Girffin who all made outstanding plays. The running plays of Matt Granville led to two additional scores on two outstanding runs which again only resulted from the team effort in blocking an East Rockaway squad that was over 40 pounds heavier per man!
The defensive effort of all eleven players was a pleasure to watch, including big stops from Aidan Griffin, Joey Perrini, Peter Cannizzaro and too many others to mention. The backfield play of Will Honan and Cole Dutton stopped the East Rockaway backs from breakaways for three quarters of play and was strong the entire game. The entire game was typified by the loudest hit of the game when Matt DiSimpliciis leveled a back coming at him on a sweep for a 7 yard loss, despite giving up a good 30 pounds per player! The coaches are very proud of the whole team and look forward to our first away game of the year at a tough Bellmore team this coming Sunday. GO THUNDER!!!!
