Manners! You must remember them. Parents constantly told us to say PLEASE and THANK YOU! We were sent off to our childhood parties with the statement - mind your manners and we did. We wrote Thank you notes when we received a gift and got thank you notes in return when we gave a gift. Where did manners go? I seldom hear “please” when anyone wants you to do something for them nor do I hear “thank you” when it is done. I still write thank you notes but it’s been forever since I received one. We could all use that kinder and gentler approach to life, especially in times like these. I would like to say “Thank You” for taking the time to read this column and to remember these three little words (“please” “thank you.” Next to “I love you” they are important in making all of our lives so much better.

The bridge games have started in full force and the Casino Ladies Lunch Bridge is no exception. They had a full house on Wednesday, September 15th. There were many comments on the lovely Salad Plate complete with a glass of wine to start off the season. Enjoying the afternoon were Ada Kane, Barbara DeGroot, Helen Schneider, Trudy Anderson, and Marilyn Camp among many others. I am sure they are all looking forward to next month. Sue Giangrasso does a wonderful job of running this and it’s nice to just see the smile on her face as she works.

The first Small Slam was made in 6 hearts by Dick Benack and Marjorie Prestly. Seems that Lady Luck is making herself scarce as there have been no Grand Slams made anywhere in a long time, but there is always hope. The winners of the two door prizes were: Mildred Cirona and Frank Flaherty. Bridge Chairman, Dr. George Rigara, announced that the next event would be held on October 21st. Reservations are in order.

Many more years of happiness to both couples and may you enjoy all our best wishes.

With fall now here, the birds will be flying south for the winter before long. Did you that if a Blackpoll Warbler burned gas instead of fat in its nonstop 85 hour, 1,740 mile flight from Nova Scotia to Antigua it would get 720,000 miles to the gallon. Wish we could put that in our tanks. See you next week.
