Hearing On Dept Of Senior Citizens Four Year Plan
Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi today announced that the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs and its Advisory Council will convene a Public Hearing on the 2nd Annual Update to the Nassau County Four Year Plan for the federal Older Americans Act and the New York State Community Services for the Elderly Act. It will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in Room 101A, of the Health and Human Services Building, 60 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, Uniondale, NY.
“This annual public hearing provides an opportunity for agencies and Nassau County residents of any age to present their comments on the services outlined in the proposed Plan,” said Mr. Suozzi. “We encourage people to review the Plan and present their recommendations on our existing programs and on new programs they would like to see developed in the future. These recommendations are vital in helping us anticipate needs and strengthen services to Nassau County’s older persons.”
The Plan is a working document describing how the Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, as the designated Area Agency on Aging for Nassau County, proposes to fulfill the Area Plan requirement under Section 541 of the Executive Law of New York State. The Plan covers the period between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011.
“Nearly 264,000 older persons age 60 and over reside in Nassau County and they comprise nearly 20% of the total County population,” said Dr. Sharon Mullon, Commissioner of the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs. “This Plan focuses on services that will assist older persons to continue living in their homes and communities. We want to provide our older residents and their caregivers with the information and support they need to remain independent.”
Any resident who wishes to present testimony should call the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, at 227-8944, no later than October 16, 2009.
