Community Club To Celebrate 90th Anniversary
General Program Chairmen Ruth Labosco and Kathy McCormick, Hospitality Chairman Phyllis Dima and Director Carol Countryman (R) listen attentively to Sal’s words.
The Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead extends a cordial invitation to all its members and guests to join them at the Garden City Casino on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 for a festive celebration commemorating the Club’s 90th
birthday. The party will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will feature a historical presentation of the past, present and future programs of this remarkable organization. Along with displays of paintings, crafts and clothing of other eras, there will be a sing-a-long of songs we may all remember and of course there will be a birthday cake!
That the club has been such a vital part of the community for so many years is a true reflection of the dedication of its members. Sending packages to soldiers during World War 1, helping people get through the 1929 depression, decorating town buildings at holiday time, conducting fine arts classes in the studio, writing and performing plays, organizing trips to historical places, visiting museum attending concerts and Broadway plays and awarding scholarships to deserving students in the nursing and medical field are only a few of the endeavors undertaken by the Community Club over the past 90 years.
Sal Catania of the Garden City Reader’s Theater joins Joan Afflerbach, Chairman of the Anniversary celebration at the club office. Sal will be directing the dramatic readings presented by our members.
So please mark your calendar and be sure to join us on October 7th
to celebrate with us and enjoy a piece of birthday cake with us. We encourage anyone who can to wear a hat and white gloves to the party.
Other committee members include: Jo Krawczyk, Ann Paulson, Muriel Urban, Grace Murphy Christian, Mary Polak and Pat Sheehan
