Another First For Daley
      Last week Garden City's Matt Daley got his first major league victory but in the process had to deal with the highs and lows of being a major league relief pitcher before notching it. He was called on to enter the game in the eight inning of a tie game with the bases loaded and the Reds cleanup hitter up.

GCAA Basketball Now Accepting Applications
      GCAA, an entity that has been running sports in Garden City for over 50 years, is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 basketball season. The application can be downloaded from the GCAA website, www.gc-aa.com. In addition, applications also have been sent home in children's school backpacks.

GCAA Announces Travel Try Outs For Travel Basketball
      GCAA will be hosting try outs for Travel Basketball. The teams will play in the highly competitive Island Garden League. You do not need to try out if you have any interest solely in playing GCAA intramurals. In that case, just fill out the GCAA application. The intramural application can be downloaded from the GCAA website www.gc-aa.com and then clicking on the basketball link.

Maroon 9's Win Opener Against Island Trees
      The Maroon boys 9 year old football team opened their season against the Island Trees Cardinals this past Sunday with a 27-6 win. The game got off on a quick note on the first handoff from scrimmage, as QB Cole Dutton and Left Guard Patrick Kavan led running back Andrew DeSantis around end for a quick TD.

GCAA Fall Field Hockey Clinics
      The Garden City Athletic Association is pleased to announce their annual field hockey clinics for girls in grades 4 - 8. Thunder 8 Year Olds Battle Against East Rockaway
      After 2 days of heavy rain the skies cleared for a glorious day of football at Stewart Field this past Sunday. The 8 year old men of Thunder took the field to battle against a very tough East Rockaway team who worked their way north to take on this stout team of young men from Garden City.

Boys Varsity Soccer Team Plays Calhoun

      The Garden City Trojans boys varsity soccer team played the Calhoun Colts last Saturday morning at GCHS. It was a physical game that saw both Calhoun goalkeepers get injured, but not seriously. Garden City goalkeeper George Spanos made five saves and didn't allow a goal.

Trojans Crush NHP In Opener
      Expectations have been running high for the 2009 Trojans and they did nothing to diminish them with a dominating 46-0 opening day victory over New Hyde Park at Warren King Field. The Trojans scored 23 first quarter points, led 37-0 at the half and used all of their 47-man squad by the end of the day.

Girls Varsity Soccer Hosts Massapequa

      The Garden City Trojans girls varsity soccer team played host to the Massapequa Chiefs on Monday afternoon, September 14th. Massapequa opened the scoring as Erica Modena, on an assist from Rosie DiMartino, found the back of the net with a little more than three minutes left in the first half. DiMartino scored both of Massapequa's goals in the second half as the Chiefs went on to win 3-0.

ADULT ART CLASSES AT CLUETT HALL
      Due to popular demand, the Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays beginning September 18. Our classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's.
