Garden City Community Church Summer Events
Ed Yoo - Christmas in August?
Members of the Garden City Community Church had quite an extraordinary summer, filled with fun, fellowship and service. The summer kicked off with a Church "Block Party" in June sponsored by the Board of Christian Education to celebrate Church School Sunday. The party included delicious food, fun games and music as well as a very successful auction to help fund the summer youth Mission Trip to Denver. Church youth and leaders auctioned off their personal gifts of service with babysitting, golf lessons, dinner parties, tutoring and more. The church party drew a big crowd of church members of all ages!
The first week after school let out, the children of the community and church enjoyed an enriching and fun week at Vacation Bible School where the "Discovery Canyon" theme had the kids exploring the depths of the canyon while also exploring the stories of Jesus through music, science and drama. In addition, the children brought in change for the INN in Hempstead to learn how to serve others less fortunate on LI and their efforts raised $355.

Then, the first week in July, 12 adult leaders and over 50 GCCC youth, grades 9-12, flew to Denver, Colorado to partake in a weeklong Mission Trip where they served the cities' homeless, the poor, the elderly and children from broken and impoverished homes. Groups repaired and painted homes in the scorching heat, packed heavy boxes of food to share with the hungry, played with and cared for needy children and served meals to homeless men off the street. The inner city experience was punctuated with a night of worship at a "hip hop" service in a nearby church. Coming together in community with the youth of that neighborhood after serving by day in the surrounding streets was a great finale to a week that everyone who participated in will surely carry in their hearts forever. If you would like to hear firsthand how this trip affected our youth, please attend the forum on Aug 27 at 9:00 am in the church parlor.
Finally, over 25 families from the Garden City Community Church enjoyed their annual week of "Family Camp" in August at Geneva Point Center on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. The group of almost 100 enjoyed the spectacular waterfront, the worship overlooking the lake, the games and s'mores at the campfires as well as the fun and games on the "field". The weather was warm and the stars were bright! Another perfect week for the church families!
