College Prep Programs for Young Adults

The Garden City Public Library is offering a new fall series of college prep programs for young adults. A workshop for parents and YA's, SAT Test Strategies 101, will be held on Wednesday September 23rd at 7PM. During this one hour workshop both parents and students can learn how to score higher on the SAT using key Kaplan test strategies. The format and content of the test will be covered and various question types will be reviewed. Registration is ongoing.

The following week on Wednesday, September 30 at 7:30PM Dr. Martha Maloof, PhD will present How To Write a Winning College Essay. Dr. Maloof will talk about the secrets of composing a well written college essay. She will critique essays and answer questions at the end of the program. Registration began on Wednesday, September 16th.

On Wednesday, October 14th from 7 - 8:30PM, college financial aid experts Barry Fox and Wendy David-Gaines will explain how to obtain the maximum financial aid for college. Find out "How Long Islanders Can Beat the High Cost of College" at this workshop for parents and students. Questions will be answered and step by step instructions will be given on filling out the necessary forms.

Mini Party/Gift Bag Craft Workshop

Join instructor Joanne Insinga and learn to create mini gift bags and keepsake boxes decorated with party, sports or holiday themes on Wednesday, October 7th from 7 - 8:30PM. Registration begins on Wednesday, September 23rd and is limited to 20 participants.

Young adult programs are for students in Grade 6-12 and priority is given to Garden City Library cardholders. Registration may be done in person, by phone at 742-8405, or by email to the Young Adult Librarian Marge Kelly at mkelly@gardencitypl.org. Funding for these programs is provided by The Friends of The Garden City Public Library.
