News From The Children's Room
Registration Underway for Fall Storytimes and Book Discussions
Registration for all storytimes and book discussions began on Monday, September 14th. Storytime registration can be done either online at www.gardencitypl.org or in person. Storytimes are held for children beginning at age 18 months with caregiver and continuing through First Grade. Consult the website or the Children's Room for the complete schedule. Book discussions are offered for children in Grade Two through Grade Five. Registration for book discussions may only be done in person in the Children's Department.
Book Discussions for Children in Grades 2-5
Chapter Chat: For children presently enrolled in Second Grade. Program is forty-five minutes long. Sign up for both sessions. Wednesday, October 7 at 4:00PM— Roscoe Riley Rules # 1: Never Glue Your Friends to Chairs by Katherine Applegate. Wednesday, November 4 at 4:00PM— 2nd Grade Friends: Veterans Day Visitor by Peter Catalanotto.
New Friends in a Book Club: For children presently enrolled in Third Grade. Program is forty-five minutes long. Sign up for both sessions. Wednesday, October 14 at 4:00PM— I Was a Third Grade Science Project by Mary Jane Auch, and Wednesday, November 18 at 4:00PM— Gooney Bird and the Room Mother by Lois Lowry.
Go Forth! Fourth Grade Book Club: For children presently enrolled in Fourth Grade. Program is forty-five minutes long. Sign up for both sessions. Wednesday, October 7 at 4:00PM— The War With Grandpa by Robert Kimmel Smith, and Wednesday, December 2 at 4:00PM—Moon Runner by Carolyn Marsden.
The Page Turners: A book discussion group for children in the Fifth Grade. Each meeting we'll discuss a book, talk about old favorites and new, and more! Bring a brown bag dinner. Sign up for both sessions. Thursday, October 8 at 5:30PM—Night of Mystery featuring Disappearing Acts by Betsy Byars, and Thursday, November 12 at 5:30PM: Fantastic Fantasy featuring Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit.
Please check the library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
