Back to school... back to the Garden City Library! September is not only back to school month but it is also Library Card Sign-up Month. The Garden City Public Library would like to remind parents and children that a library card is the most important school supply of all.
Garden City's library is an important resource for residents, both young and old this fall. The Library offers books, audio materials, DVDs, and programs for children, young adults, adults, and seniors to enjoy as well as to learn new skills. In addition, the Library subscribes to valuable information sources, which can be found on its web page and are available free of charge to every Garden City Library patron for use in the library, at home, or at the office.
The Children's Room has planned story times, book discussions and craft programs for children. The Young Adult Department is offering workshops for teens as well as three programs for college bound students and their parents. The Adult Reference Department is hosting the ever popular Lunch Bag Book Talk and Seated Aerobics, to name just two of the upcoming fall programs. The Friends of the Garden City Public Library are offering cultural programs, including weekly movies and a book discussion. Visit the Library or check the website for more information about all programs and registration.
Library patrons have access to online services 24/7 through the Library's databases that can help with many different projects this fall. Topics include: reviews of books, movies and music; business directories; college and career information; consumer evaluations; legal forms; medical information; scholarly resources and guides for reports and term papers; and test preparation. Seniors, homebound patrons, students, and all Garden City patrons can research questions online and get reliable answers, in their own home or office, seven days a week, at any time of day or night at www.gardencitypl.org.
When visiting the Library, patrons are invited to browse the display area for popular and special interest books to check out this fall. The displays, located adjacent to the circulation desk, feature both fiction and non fiction books which have been selected for fall interests. Readers will discover recently published novels that they may have missed during the summer. In addition, parents can find books to address all of their "back to school" concerns. Job seekers can browse the display on careers for books on interviewing and resume writing. Patrons will also find books to help plan fall getaways, home redecorating, and entertaining. Use your library card and check out all the resources available through the Library this fall.
