Assemblyman Shares Energy-Saving Tips

Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I-East Meadow) would like to advise his constituents on ways they can save money. The Long Island Power Authority is offering savings with rebates on two-speed and variable-speed pool pumps, refrigerators, dehumidifiers and central air conditioning tune ups. "This is a smart program which people should take advantage of to help decrease energy costs for your home or business and replace any older appliances", the Assemblyman stated.

All of the rebates available are part of LIPA's Efficiency Long Island program which is a 10 year long effort, launched this year, which will help to reduce energy consumption and lower energy bills. The $924 million that was allocated to this program, offers rebates and incentives for LIPA's residential and commercial customers.

The Long Island Power Authority is offering from now until September 30th, 2009, a $75 rebate for customers who purchase or replace their older single-speed pool pump for a two-speed pump. Those who install a variable-speed pump can receive a rebate for $200. These newer speed pumps are energy efficient and can save up to 30% or more on energy costs. In order to receive these rebates customers must use participating LIPA contractors for the installation.

For those who do not own a pool but are looking to update their appliances, LIPA is also offering back $75 on select standard ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators that are larger then 7.5 cubic feet, for all residential LIPA customers.

These are just a few examples of all the savings that LIPA is offering. For more information on ways that you can save and for a list of participating LIPA contractors, please visit www.lipower.org and click on the Cool Homes program under the Efficiency section.

"Programs such as the Efficiency Long Island are great opportunities to save money on energy costs. I encourage all my constituents to take a look at their website and see what's available for them. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call my office at (516) 739-5119."
