The Garden City Wings Ice Hockey Club is now accepting applications to play ice hockey during the winter season from September 2009 through March 2010. Registration is open to ALL Garden City High School and Middle School age students who are interested in playing competitive ice hockey. This season marks the 36th year of the Wings participation in the High School Hockey League of Nassau County. Students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to join our Varsity team and students in grades 6 through 8 are encouraged to join our Middle School team.

Our ice hockey programs include about 20 games and 24 practices throughout the winter season. Each game consists of three fifteen-minute periods of change on the fly, full contact ice hockey. All games are played at ice rinks within Nassau County. Weekly on-ice practices last about 85 minutes and emphasize teamwork, commitment and fun as well as the development of individual skating, passing, shooting and checking skills. Full ice hockey equipment is required. Our practice schedule does not conflict with the roller hockey programs conducted by the Garden City Recreation Department.

The first practice for the Varsity team (grades 9 through 12) will be held on Sunday evening September 13 on the ice at 8 p.m. at Iceworks, 175 Underhill Blvd., Syosset. The first practice for the Middle School team (grades 6 through 8) will be held on Thursday evening September 10 on the ice at 8:30 p.m. at Iceworks, 175 Underhill Blvd., Syosset. There is NO charge for the first practice.
