In Memoriam
Erna Louise (nee Grimsmann) Ludemann
Erna Louise Ludemann
Erna Louise Ludemann, 78, of Slingerlands NY, former long-time resident of Garden City, passed away surrounded by the love of her family at The Hospice Inn of St. Peters Hospital, Albany, NY on Sunday, August 23 after battling cancer for over 3 years with grace and elegance.
She was born in Brooklyn on April 11, 1931, the daughter of Ernst and Erna Grimsmann. After completing nurse's training, she worked as a surgical nurse in Brooklyn, NY and, on January 29, 1956, married Robert F. Ludemann. Her natural abilities to love and care, which served her so well as a nurse, made her a most beloved wife, mother, and grandmother to her husband, 4 children, and 4 grandchildren.
She and her family moved from Brooklyn, to Garden City, in August 1969 where she lived for 38 years before relocating to Slingerlands, in 2007 to be closer to her daughter during her battle with breast cancer.
During her years in Garden City, she was a long-time and dedicated member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Garden City where she touched many lives with her natural talents of sewing, quilting, baking, cooking, good humor and genuine love and caring of others.
Erna is predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Mason; her parents, Ernst & Erna Grimsmann; and her husband of 49 years, Robert F. Ludemann. She is survived by her four children and their families: son, Robert E. Ludemann, Merrick, NY; son, Stuart H. Ludemann (Pam Parsons), Jacksonville, FL; son, Bruce F. Ludemann (Zachary and Allison, grandchildren); and daughter, Lisa L. Thien (Ted Thien, son-in-law; Daniel and Hannah, grandchildren), Delmar, NY. She will be terribly missed by her family and friends, but her love will always live within us.
A memorial service at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Garden City and internment at Nassau Knolls in Port Washington will be held on a future date to be determined by the family.
