Donations Help Bird Sanctuary With New Tractor

Rob Alvey thanks Robert Taylor for the donation towards the new riding mower for the Bird Sanctuary.
Readers of the Garden City News noted an appeal by the Garden City Bird Sanctuary for help in funding to purchase a new riding mowertractor and have responded.

President Alvey received a call and met with local resident Robert Taylor offering assistance and asking about the type of tractor the local community preserve needed. On Sunday, August 30, a new Sears Craftsman riding mower was delivered and Mr. Taylor presented a donation of $1000 towards the purchase as his way of showing support for the Bird Sanctuary and the community. Robert Taylor is the father of four sons, with twin boys entering 9th grade. He is a former scoutmaster with Garden City Troop 80 and has followed the news of many of the Boy Scout and Girl Scout projects that have been conducted at the Bird Sanctuary during the last 14 years. His wife, Elizabeth, had become ill several years ago, and the family was always very appreciative of the tremendous show of support and services provided by Troop 80 and the community towards his family. Elizabeth passed away earlier this year. Providing funds towards the new mower was felt to be a way of returning support to the community and the volunteer services that so many people provide. As a thank you for this generous donation, a tree will be planted in memory of Elizabeth A Taylor by the Garden City Bird Sanctuary. A dedication service is scheduled for Saturday Sept 26, 3PM for all of the trees and shrubs donated in 2009 by families and friends to honor special people. The community is invited.

The Bird Sanctuary is grateful for this donation which "kick starts" the emergency appeal for funds. Contributions for the mower fund can be sent to the Garden City Bird Sanctuary at P.O. Box 7507, Garden City NY 11530-7507, or call Rob Alvey at 326-1720.
