Fall Young Adult Programs Include Movie Twilight, Babysitting and Ice Cream Workshops, and SAT Prep

Back to school ... Back to the Garden City Public Library for a new fall series of programs for young adults in grades 6 - 12. This fall the Library is offering movies, crafts, book discussions, and college prep programs for young people. Registration begins on Monday, August 31st to enjoy refreshments and watch the movie Twilight, which will be shown on Saturday, September 12 from 2 - 4:15 PM. The movie is based on the popular novel by Stephenie Meyer.

The popular two-part Babysitting Workshop will be held again this fall so that YAs can learn the responsibilities of babysitting. The First Aid/Child Care Session will be held on Tuesday, September 15 from 3:45 - 5:45 PM. Participants are asked to bring a doll to practice the proper care of babies under the direction of Nurses JoAnn Tanck and Georgette Basso. The Safety Session, conducted by Assistant Superintendent of Recreation Ed Fronckwicz and Detective Richard Pedone, will be held on Tuesday, September 22 from 3:45 - 5:15 PM. Certificates of Completion will be awarded to those attending both sessions. Registration begins Tuesday, September 1st.

On Saturday, September 19th Sue Bazzicalupo will return to the Library to conduct an ice cream making workshop. Registration begins on Saturday, September 5th and is limited to 25 participants. Priority will be given to those not taken from the wait list in July.

A workshop for parents and YA's, SAT Test Strategies 101, will be held on Wednesday September 23rd at 7PM. During this one hour workshop both parents and students can learn how to score higher on the SAT using key Kaplan test strategies. Registration is ongoing.

Young adult programs are for students in Grade 6-12 and priority is given to Garden City Library cardholders. Funding for these programs is provided by The Friends of The Garden City Public Library.
