Former Resident Writes Book
Robert Lockwood Mills of Sun City Center, Florida, who lived in Garden City as a boy, has authored his seventh published book, Baseball—-Then and Now . It recalls his days as a sandlot player on a field behind Stratford School, which he attended from 1951-1953, and continues as a nostalgic look at the evolution of the game at the major-league level. Mills discusses great and not-so-great players, broadcasters and public-address announcers, ballparks, famous controversies, and emphasizes the changing influence of broadcast and print media on the game. The author intersperses humor with critical commentary throughout.
Mills wrote the book entirely from memory. It's available from the publisher at infinitypublishing.com, also at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. The author can be reached at rmills6126@earthlink.net.
