Resurrection Invites Community "Back To Church"
How many people do you know who "used to go" to church but just don't anymore? Research shows that most people who do not attend church regularly attended at one time in their lives. Many of these people are willing to try church again, given the right opportunity.
Resurrection Lutheran Church is joining with thousands of churches across the country in a local National "Back to Church Sunday," September 13th. Jeff Browning, Resurrection's pastor explains, "Neighbors, co-workers, or friends may be looking to return to church. Some may want to re-connect with God or just want to return to what was once an important part of their lives. Whatever their reason, Back to Church Sunday at Resurrection provides a welcoming day for people to come and see the hope, peace, love and assurance God has to offer them."
Adding to the excitement of Back to Church Sunday, Resurrection will also celebrate a new season of Sunday School with Rally Day and Registration on Sept. 13.
After Rally Day, families will meet together in the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m. with Theo, the puppet, who introduces the theme of the day with a Bible story, music and a short skit. Following the opening program, parents take their smaller children and everyone from 3 years old to senior high moves to their respective classrooms. Through interactive learning, games, crafts, music, and hands-on activities, students experience Bible lessons in a tangible and lasting way. Take-home materials help parents with discussion guidelines to continue the learning at home together as a family.
Families in the community who may be thinking about bringing their kids to church may soon discover, as actress Reese Witherspoon commented, "I take the kids to church and Sunday school. They love it. I really think it's important for a child to feel that there are things that are bigger than your life out there." All are invited to join in this national movement, Back to Church.
Resurrection is a multi-site community of faith, with its home campus located at 420 Stewart Avenue, at the corner of Clinton Rd. in Garden City. All are invited to worship at 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday mornings, with Christian Education for all ages at 9:45 a.m. For more information, please visit www.resgc.org or call the church office, 516.746.4426.
